Private and religion based primary and secondary schools are also plentiful in the area.  Nearby colleges include Yale University, Quinnipiac University and Southern Connecticut State University.

Getting Around

Hamden has easy access to I-91, I-95, Route 15 (Wilbur Cross/Merritt Parkway) and Route 5. Local public transportation is provided by two bus lines, and train service is available via New Haven’s Union and State Street Stations.  Residents of Hamden have an average daily commute of less than 30 minutes.

Hamden offers plenty to do whether you're looking for outdoor activities, cultural attractions or family fun. The town boasts a collection of fabulous restaurants and pubs, as well as extensive cultural resources including music and dance classes, art galleries, an outdoor summer concert series, a community garden and a fantastic public library.  Hike or have a family picnic at your choice of outdoor parks and trail systems, including 500 acre Brooksvale Park and Sleeping Giant State Park. You can also hop onto the Farmington Canal State Park Trail for a long jog or bike ride.  The paved trail provides easy and scenic access into New Haven and north through Cheshire and beyond.  Enjoy a round of golfing at Laurel View Country Club or Sleeping Giant Golf Course.
